KINGSTON, R.I. - On Sunday, Sept. 16, the University of Rhode Island baseball team took part in the 2007 Southern New England Walk Now For Autism event, held at Roger Williams Park in Providence, R.I. The Rams joined more than 2,500 individuals and 120 teams who walked to raise funds for autism research - more than doubling last year's number of participants. This year's walk raised over $280,000.
"I'm proud that we were able to be a part of such a special event," said head coach Jim Foster. "I am a very strong believer in the importance of raising autism awareness and would do anything to show my support."
Walk Now for Autism, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program, is Autism Speaks' signature fundraising and awareness event, taking place in communities across the United States, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research, but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.
