Coaching: After a successful stint as a scholastic coach and athletic director, Pat Clarke enters his first season as an assistant coach for head coach Jim Baron at Rhode Island. "Pat is the guy who keeps us all on the right track," Baron said. "He is an invaluable part of our coaching staff. He quietly goes about his job and is our go-to guy. I don't know where we would be without him on our staff." Clarke was a lifelong resident of Olean, N.Y., before following Baron to Rhode Island in 2001 when he was named URI's first ever director of basketball operations. He served in a similar capacity at St. Bonaventure from 1999-01. In 1999, Clarke left his longtime post as coach and athletic director at Olean's Archbishop Walsh High to join Baron's staff at St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies earned their first NCAA bid in 22 years in 1999-00 finishing with a 21-10 record. St. Bonaventure followed up that success by posting an 18-12 record and earning another NIT invitation in 2000-01. Success has followed Clarke to Rhode Island. After an 8-20 record in his first year in the Ocean State, Clarke has seen the Rams post back-to-back 20-win seasons and earn a pair of NIT berths in the last two years on the Ram coaching staff. At Archbishop Walsh, Clarke spent 11 years (1988-99) as athletic director, chair of the physical education department and head coach for baseball, softball, football and boys' basketball. His basketball teams went 151-102 (.597) and were Expressway Conference champions and earned a trip to the state championships in 1991. Many of his players have gone on to play college ball. Clarke earned a bachelor's of science degree in physical education from St. Bonaventure in 1992. He married the former Kristin Snyder in 2003 at the couple resides in East Greenwich, R.I. The couple has two daughters - Maura Lynn and Molly Christine. |
