Mike Monteiro returns to the University of Rhode Island as the Athletic Trainer for the men's basketball team following a 5-year endeavor in the prevention of injuries in the corporate/industrial setting.

Monteiro served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Rhode Island from 1996 to 2002. Monteiro also served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Providence Bruins (AHL) during the 1997-98 season.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Monteiro earned his B.S. from the University of Rhode Island in 1993, as well as his M.S. in Exercise Science in 1999. Monteiro is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association. He also served as President of the Rhode Island Athletic Trainer's Association (RIATA) from 2003-2006 and was the 2007 recipient of the RIATA Athletic Trainer of the Year award. In addition to being a Certified Athletic Trainer, Monteiro is a certified member of the National Strength & Conditioning Association.

A native of East Providence, R.I., Monteiro and his wife, Deb, have two daughters, Mikaela and Olivia.
