Rhode Island To Face Creighton on Tuesday Night in NIT Opening Round

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Island will travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on Creighton in the opening round of the 2008 MasterCard National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Tuesday, March 18 at 10 p.m. ET. The game between the Rams and the Blue Jays will be televised live nationally on ESPNU, with Dave Armstrong and Jack Armstrong providing the call. It will be the first meeting between the two schools on the hardwood. Head coach Dana Altman's squad has compiled a 21-10 overall record so far this year, including a 10-8 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. They went 1-1 at the MVC tournament in St. Louis, beating Bradley, 74-70, on March 7 before dropping a 75-67 decision to Drake on March 8. URI has posted an 0-3 record against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference, all-time. P'Allen Stinnett leads a very balanced offensive attack, averaging 12.4 points per game. Dane Watts checks in at 11.5 points per game, shooting close to 54.0% from the floor, while grabbing a CU-best 6.3 boards per outing. Six players average 6.0 points or better, while nine Blue Jays have hit at least 10 three-pointers. Creighton boasts one of the top home non-conference records in the country. Under Altman, the Blue Jays are 70-12 (.854) - and a remarkable 30-5 (.857) at the Qwest Center Omaha. Fans can also tune into the action via the radio, as Steve McDonald and Don Kaull call the action on WHJJ 920 AM and The Bridge 99.3 FM.
