March 24, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Will Daniels and Safi Mojidi were honored today at the annual Cox Sports/R.I. Basketball Awards Luncheon, held today in Warwick.

Daniels was named the Men's Division I Co-Player of the Year, after helping lead the Rams to a 21-12 overall record and a berth in the National Invitation Tournament. The 6-8 senior led URI and ranked fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game. He also registered 6.5 rebounds, good for second on the squad and 11th in the conference. Daniels became the first URI player since Tyson Wheeler (1996-97, 1997-98) and just the third URI player all-time to earn First Team All-A-10 honors in consecutive seasons. He shared the award with Brown's Mark McAndrew.

Mojidi was honored as the Women's Division I Player of the Year. The senior guard led the Rams in scoring, at 12.2 points per game. She connected on 51 three-pointers during her final year in a Rhody uniform and finished her career as the school's all-time three-point field goal leader (185), and third on both the all-time scoring list (1,601) and the all-time assists list (354). A three-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, she competed for the Nigerian National team during the Summer of 2007.
