Stevens Leads Rams at Ron Smith Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Rhode Island finished 17th overall at the Ron Smith Invitational, held from Feb. 29-March 2 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club (par 72 - 7,084 yards).

The Rams combined for a three-day total of 906 (304-293-309). Middle Tennessee State took home the team title, firing a three-round total of 858.

Leading the way for URI was junior Mark Stevens, who finished in a tie for 12th with a three-day total of 216 (E). Stevens shot rounds of 71 in the first two days of competition before tallying a final round 74. Patrick Pelletier and Brad Valois finished in a tie for 62nd place, with a three-day total of 229. Pelletier shot a final round 77 (79-73-77), while Valois carded a 78 this afternoon (74-77-78). Bill Forcier shot a round of 80, to finish in a tie for 73rd with a total of 232 (80-72-80). Marquette's Mike Van Sickle took home individual honors, carding a final round 69 to finish with a three-day total of 208.

Rhode Island played without senior Jarryd Dillas for the three-day tournament, after he suffered a foot injury prior to competition.

Next up for the Rams is the Palmetto Classic, held March 10-11, in Aiken, S.C.
