AIKEN, S.C. -- The University of Rhode Island golf team finished in 11th place at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto Intercollegiate. The two-day, three-round tournament was held at the Palmetto Golf Club (par 70, 6,565 yards). Founded in 1892, Palmetto is recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States and holds the oldest membership certificate to the USGA still in existence. URI had a three-round total of 914 (302-307-305). Tennessee-Chattanooga captured the team title, with a three-round total of 850 (289-279-282). "Although we're disapointed we didn't play as we hoped, it was the most difficult course we've played in either the Fall or Spring this year," said head coach Tom Drennan. "Palmetto is known for being a difficult course, as the condition of the greens were superb yet very challenging." The Rams were led by Patrick Pelletier, who finished in a tie for 26th place. After firing an opening round 73, he shot 76 in the second and third rounds for a total of 225. Mark Stevens shot a final round 75 as he finished in a tie for 45th place with a three-day total of 231 (76-80-75). Jarryd Dillas finished in a tie for 48th overall, totalling 232 (82-74-76) for the three-round tournament. Brad Valois (77-78-78=233) and Bill Forcier (76-79-78) tied for 53rd place. Tennessee-Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge took the individual title, with a three-day total of 212 (72-73-67). Rhody returns to action on March 21-23, when it travels to Rehoboth Beach, Del. to play in the GW Spring Invitational.
