Golf Places Seventh at GW Invitational

BETHANY BEACH, Del. -- The University of Rhode Island golf team placed seventh at the 10th annual George Washington Golf Invitational, hosted by The George Washington University. The tournament hosted several of the Northeast's top teams and was shortened to 45 holes due to darkness. The Rams placed seventh as a team, with a 45-hole total of 763. Maryland captured the team title, with a score of 738. Leading the way for Rhode Island was Bill McDonald. He tied for 22nd overall, with a score of 191 (74-80-37). Mark Stevens tied for 29th (80-76-36 -- 192). Patrick Pelletier (75-79-40) and Jarryd Dillas (76-76-42) tied for 40th, shooting a three-day total of 194. Bill Forcier completed play in a tie for 55th (83-79-35). The tournament was held at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach, DE. Bear Trap Dunes is a par-72, 6,834-yard course. The event was contested over 45 holes on the Grizzly and Kodiak nines. The GW Invitational had been held at Swan Point Golf Club in Issue, MD, for seven straight years before moving to Bear Trap Dunes on the Delaware Shore two years ago. URI returns to action on March 27 at the Furman Invitational.
