Ben Smith begins his third season as Volunteer Goalkeeper coach for the Rams' net minders in 2007-08. A 1992 graduate of Castleton State College, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics. He also earned his Masters of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1995. A native of Castleton, Vt., Ben was a four-year varsity standout for Fair Haven High School where he had a career record of 33-7-1. He handles individual training for the Rhody keepers (a minimum of twice per week) and is responsible for pre-game preparation prior to matches at home. Coach Smith has coached at all levels of the game from youth to high school over the past 20 years. "It's great to have someone of Ben's quality who is willing to volunteer his personal time to coach an important part of our team" says Coach John O'Connor. "I know the goalkeepers appreciate what he offers them in training, evaluation and support". When not volunteering with the Ram's men's program, Ben works as a product line manager for American Power Conversion (APC). He resides in Kingston, R.I. with his wife Pam and sons Michael, David and Ryan. updated: 6/12/07 |
