Men's Soccer
Doug Stone has been involved with URI athletics for over fifteen years so he is no stranger to its teams and what they require to be successful. In 2007-08, he begins his 11th season as the strength and conditioning coach for the Rhody men's soccer program. Prior to his stint with Rhody men's soccer, Doug had come to Kingston in 1997 as the strength and conditioning coach for URI men's and women's basketball teams. During this time, he helped to develop former Rams and present NBA standouts Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers and Cutino Mobley of the cross-town rival Clippers. A 1975 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Coach Stone is the owner and operator of Stonebody's Gym in Warwick, R.I. His duties for the Rams include weekly strength and conditioning sessions with the players both in and out of the traditional season. He also is instrumental in designing the summer training program for the players in conjunction with Coach Bergren. "From the first time I saw Doug working with the team I knew he had their confidence and trust," said Coach John O'Connor. "I have certainly seen the benefits the "Stone Workouts" had done for the players physically, in terms of injury prevention and with their confidence on the field. His work is an important component in the success of the team and the program." Doug is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and has worked with other collegiate programs including Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Stone resides on the shoreline of East Greenwich, R.I., with his wife Brenda Pascale Stone. updated: 6/12/07 |
