Safi Mojidi recorded her 185th career three-pointer to set a new Rhode Island record and help the women's basketball team to a 61-49 victory over seventh-seeded St. Bonaventure, Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championship. Junior Amanda McGrew led the 10th-seeded Rams with a team-high 12 points and game-best five steals as URI picked up its first A-10 tournament win since 2004.

Rhode Island faces St. Bonaventure in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, Friday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m. It marks the 26th consecutive season the Rams have participated in the league's post-season tournament, dating back to the inaugural championship in 1983. The Rams are 22-19 all-time against the Bonnies, having won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two teams, including a 56-48 victory earlier this season (Jan. 19) at the Ryan Center. Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure have met just once in the history of the Atlantic 10 Championship - in a quarterfinal matchup on March 10, 1994. Ironically, that game was also played at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in Philadelphia and - in a convincing 120-62 defeat of the Bonnies - Rhode Island set the A-10 Championship scoring record.

After finishing the 2007-08 regular season with a 5-9 mark in Atlantic 10 play (12-17 overall) the Rhode Island women's basketball enters the conference championship as the No. 10 seed and will face seventh-seeded St. Bonaventure on Friday, March 7, at 4 p.m. The Rams tied Massachusetts and Saint Louis for 10th place in the league standings and - due to the A-10 tiebreaking procedures - were awarded the No. 10 seed while SLU enters the tournament as the No. 11 seed and UMass is No. 12.

Rams Lose at St. Joe's, 72-60, in Regular Season Final

Crystal Bellinger recorded a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals as the Rhode Island women's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 72-60, in the regular season finale for both teams, Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in Philadelphia. The Rams finish with an overall record of 12-17 (5-9 Atlantic 10) and must now wait for the conclusion of tonight's games between La Salle (4-9 A-10)vs. Duquesne (5-8 A-10) and Richmond (6-7 A-10) vs. Charlotte (8-5 A-10) to determine their participation in the conference tournament. Both of those games are slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Rhode Island hits the road for its regular season finale at Saint Joseph's, Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. Rhody is 6-44 all-time against the Hawks, having last defeated St. Joe's (56-53) on Feb. 20, 2005. Rams Fall to Duquesne, 70-56, on Senior Night

The Rhode Island women's basketball team was defeated by Duquesne, 70-56, in its final home game of the season. Three Rhody players scored in double figures, including guard Amanda McGrew who totaled a team-best 17 points. Prior to the start of the game, the Rams held a brief ceremony to honor the six graduating seniors on this year's basketball team. LaQuanda Brandon, Mia Marcus, Whitney Hollis, Erin Cournoyer, Safi Mojidi and Michonne Gamble-Rivers were recognized and joined on the court by family members.

Rhode Island returns to the Ryan Center for its final home game of the season against Duquesne, Wednesday Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Rhody is 19-19 all-time against the Dukes, having won two of the last three meetings between the teams. URI is 9-8 at home against the Dukes, 9-11 in Pittsburgh, 1-0 on neutral courts and 2-0 in overtime games.

Amanda McGrew scored a team high 18 points and Safi Mojidi added 15 as the Rhode Island women's basketball team edged Charlotte 65-63, Sunday afternoon the Dale F. Harlton Arena in Charlotte, N.C. Sierra Cooper rounded out the double-figure scoring for the Rams with 12 points.

In that win, the Rams also set single-game facility records for field goals (35), field goal percentage (.583, 35-60) and assists (25). URI is 1-0 at home against the Niners and 0-1 in Charlotte.
