KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island field hockey team was defeated by Richmond, 4-0, on Friday afternoon, Oct. 19. With the loss, the Rams even their record at 7-7 overall (1-4 Atlantic 10) while the Spiders improve to 5-10 (4-1 Atlantic 10).

Richmond scored three first-half goals in a span of less than six minutes, taking an early lead and never looking back. Sarah Schrott tallied first for the Spiders, burying a pass from Erin Arthur after a penalty corner by Dani Pycroft at the 13:50 mark. Three minutes later, Pycroft sent a corner to Sarah Blythe-Wood, who beat URI goalkeeper M.J. Britt (Swoyersville, Pa.) for the 2-0 lead. Malatesta extended Richmond's advantage to 3-0 at the 19:25 mark when she blasted an unassisted shot from the edge of the circle and into the back of the cage.

The Spiders' final goal came in the 69th minute when Annie Edwards tipped in a shot by Arthur.

For the game, Richmond outshot Rhode Island, 9-8 while each squad had four penalty corners.

Britt turned away four shots for the Rams while Richmond's Becca Weaver and Jacki Raithel combined for seven saves.

The Rams return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Saint Louis for a 1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) game against the Billikens.
