URI Gymnastcis Hosts Final Home Meet Friday Night
March 7, 2008
KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island gymnastics team will host its final home meet of the 2008 season Friday night at Mackal Field House. The Rams will entertain Southern Connecticut, Yale, and MIT. The event begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free. The Rams are coming off a win over Bridgeport this past weekend, 187.750-187.000. Senior Emily Rinaldo (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman Danielle Riportella (Great River, N.Y.) tied for first on the bars (9.675) while sophomore Ananda Fraser (Diego Martin, Trinidad) won the vault with a score of 9.700. MIT, meanwhile, placed fourth last weekend in a meet with Ithaca, Southern Connecticut, and SUNY-Brockport. Yale gymnast Alina Liao earned her second-consecutive ECAC Gymnast of the Week nomination after helping the Bulldogs place second at the Ivy League Classic. The meet will also be the last home meet in the history of the URI gymnastics program. Earlier this year, it was announced that the program would be discontinued at the end of the 2007-08 school year.
