URI Gymnastics Finishes Second at ECAC Championship

Heaney Named ECAC Gymnast of the Week

Fraser, Riportella Earn ECAC Honors

March 13, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island sophomore gymnast Ananda Fraser (Diego Martin, Trinidad) has been named ECAC Gymnast of the Week while freshman Danielle Riportella (Great River, N.Y.) received the Coaches Choice Award.

Fraser - who shares the honor with Brigitte Kivisto of Yale and Tricia Long of William & Mary - won the floor and vault exercises at last week's home meet with Yale, Southern Connecticut, and MIT. She established a career-high on the floor (9.825) and tied her second-highest vault score (9.700) of the season.

Riportella, meanwhile, shares this honor with Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt of Brown. Riportella won the bars (9.770) and placed second on the vault (9.650) at the same meet. While preparing for the beam exercise, Riportella suffered a season-ending knee injury that forced her to withdraw from the all-around competition.

The Rams return to action this Friday when they travel to Brown for a meet with the Bears and Southern Connecticut. The event begins at 7 p.m. and can be seen live via streaming audio on B2Networks.
