ACHA #4 Rams blank #12 Penn State 10-0 at home

Feb. 6, 2005

It was evident right from the start of the game between these two ACHA East rivals that the Rams were looking to seize control early. Coming out of the previous weekend at Bates College having taken upwards of 130 shots over two games with only 7 goals to show for it, the Rams managed to control the first period with five goals to go into the intermission with a 5-0 lead. The Rams consistent forechecking kept so much pressure on the Lady Icers defense that the only time the puck came out of the Penn State zone occurred when the Rams lost control of it, only to reset and attack, time and time again.

The Lady Icers showed more energy during the second period and tried to challenge the Rams defense, but goaltender Kelly Jourdain turned away each attempt with relative ease while the offense continued by scoring three more goals to put the Rams ahead 8-0 after two periods. As the teams came out for the third period, it was evident that Penn State was tired. The Rams played a controlled period that resulted in a variety of impressive passing plays that were not all converted, but showed that the team's offensive play is in post-season shape. The Rams scored another two goals in the third period and finalized the 10-0 victory to remain undefeated against all ACHA East competition at 13-0-1.

The Rams will finish the season with it's toughest test before going into ECWHL league and ACHA national tournament play as they host ECWHL rival #8 UMass-Amherst next weekend. The weekend series begins on Saturday, February 12 at 4:00 pm and concludes with Senior Day on Sunday, February 13 at 1:00 pm. Both games take place at Bradford Boss Ice Arena in Kingston.
