ACHA #4 Rams complete sweep of #8 UMass-Amherst to finish regular season

The Rams had the home-ice advantage and used their crowd support to maintain dominance in the Northeast as the team completed a sweep of league rival UMass-Amherst. With two consecutive 6-2 victories over the weekend, the Rams are preparing for post-season competition. The Rams are undefeated in ECWHL play (7-0-1) and are defending ECWHL champions.

Strong performances this weekend by the entire team helped them continue their success to end the regular season on a very positive note. Graduating seniors Jennifer Wallace, Lauren Marx, and Amelia Lyman were honored on Sunday as their play has helped to build the success and national reputation of the program during their time at URI. Wallace completes her career as the team's all-time scorer. Marx graduates as the only player to complete her four-year career as a leader with the young program that is completing its sixth year. Lyman graduates as one of the strongest two-way players that has ever played for the team.
 

 

In addition to the seniors, the supporting cast of emerging notable upperclassmen include Marina Riva, Robin Rosselle, Karen Hawes, Alysa Coleman all support a strong freshman class led by Allison Kelley, Chelsea Skorupski, and Ashley Pagliarini. Goaltender Kelli Jourdain continues to strong work intiated by Lynn Pecci as the team makes its post-season run. The team embarks on a new season for upcoming tournament play. The well-rounded play of all players on the team will dictate the team's success.

The Rams defend their ECWHL crown this weekend, February 19-20 at the Mullen Ice Arena complex in Amherst, MA. The Rams face-off Saturday against Penn State in their ECWHL semi-final match-up while UMass faces off against Bates College. The ECWHL championship game takes place on Sunday.

After the Rams come home, they will prepare for the ACHA Women's National Tournament that will take place March 9-13, 2005 in Buffalo, NY at the Amherst Pepsi Center and hosted by the University of Buffalo.
