Four Rams Named to 2007 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer All-Conference Team

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Four member of the University of Rhode Island women's soccer team were honored by the Atlantic 10 as part of its 2007 All-Conference team, it was announced today. Voting for the All-Conference team was done by the league's head coaches.

Senior Deb Nelson and junior Dora Larusdottir were named to the All-A-10 First Team. Nelson, a forward from Chepachet, R.I., ranked sixth in the conference in points (11 goals, three assists - 25 points). Her 11 goals were tops on the Rams, while also ranking her third in the league. She ended her career with 35 goals and 87 total points. Nelson was also an First Team All-A-10 pick in 2006.

Larusdottir ranked third in the A-10 in points in 2007, totalling 28 on the season (10 goals, eight assists). Her 10 tallies and eight assists ranked her fifth overall in the conference in each respective statistical category. Last season, the Reykjavik, Iceland native was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree.

Senior Thorunn Jonsdottir was picked for the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team. Also a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, the forward ranked fourth on the Rams with four goals, but tallied a team-best nine assists. That assist total ranked her fourth in the Atlantic 10. The 2004 A-10 Rookie of the Year and 2006 All-Conference honorable mention selection, Jonsdottir ends her Rhody career with 14 goals, 25 assists and 53 total points.

Freshman Jessica Babice was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Year. A two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, Babice totaled 16 points on seven goals and two assists. She led all A-10 freshmen with four game-winning goals, while her 66 shots ranked second on the team. The Groveville, N.J., native is the fourth player in URI history to garner A-10 Rookie of the Year honors.

 

 

URI ended the 2007 campaign with a 12-6-2 overall record, including a 6-4-1 mark in conference play.
