Rams Run Win Streak to Five With 4-3 Win Over Rider
March 18, 2008 KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Sophomore Jackie Kampmeier (East Norriton, Pa.) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the University of Rhode Island back to Kingston with a 4-3 win over Rider University in non-conference action in the final game at the Rebel Spring Games. The win stretched the Rams (5-13) win streak to five games. Tied at three entering the seventh, Kampmeier reached on a fielders choice and proceeded to steal second and third base. While attempting to swipe third, Rider catcher Megan Kozlowski committed an error which allowed Kampmeier to come around and score the winning run. Rider built a 2-0 lead in the second behind an RBI single by Derrin Minunni and a sac fly by Kozlowski. The Rams answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.) singled and scored on an error. The Broncs tacked on another run in the sixth to stretch the lead to 3-1, but the Rams rallied back with two in their half of the inning to tie the game at three. Sophomore Melissa Wilson (Longview, Wash.) reached on an error to start the inning, and classmate Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.) followed with a triple to plate her and cut the Rider lead to 3-2. Junior Odalys Torres (Carteret, N.J.) pinch ran for DiBussolo and scored the tying run on a single by freshman Amanda Sbei (Collegeville, Pa.). Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) picked up the win for the Rams, allowing 11 hits and three runs (one earned) with three walks and one strikeout. Jessica Holland suffered the loss for the Broncs, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned) in 6.2 innings of work. She walked one and struck out three.
