Senior posts NCAA provisional qualifying mark

BOSTON, Mass. - University of Rhode Island women's track & field senior Sarah Thornton (Saugerties, N.Y.) placed eighth at the 2008 AT&T USA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston.

Thornton's throw of 19.22m (63-3/4) established a new URI record and is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She is currently ranked 24th in the country and has already qualified for the USATF Indoor Championships after recording a throw of 19.17m (62-10 ¾) at the BU Valentine Invitational on February 8.

The Rams next meet will take place on Friday, Feb. 29 when they compete at the New England Championships in Boston, Mass. The event is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
