BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Rhode Island women's indoor track & field team placed 20th at the 2008 ECAC Championships this weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

Senior Jasmine Jennings (Warwick, R.I.) won the weight throw with a personal-best, URI school record, NCAA provisional qualifying and ECAC Championship record throw of 19.86m (65-02.00). In the process, she became the second Ram ever to capture ECAC Champion honors; Lynn Lanzel won titles in 1985 and 1986. Classmate Sarah Thornton (Saugerties, N.Y.), meanwhile, placed fifth with a throw of 17.75m (58-03.00).

In other events, sophomore Shayna Daugherty (Lincoln, R.I.) placed seventh in the pentathlon with a point total of 3244 and junior TyLynn Graham (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished 11th in the high jump (5-05.00).

Senior Kolleen McCauley (Red Bank, N.J.) ran the 800m in 2:14.16 - good enough for 14th place - and in the 4x400m relay, the team of McCauley, senior Amber Price (Westerly, R.I.), freshman Stephanie Reusch (Rochester, Mass.), and junior Jennifer Mariani (Charlestown, R.I.) placed 20th with a time of 3:56.83.

Jennings and Thornton are provisionally qualified to compete in next weekend's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, which will be held at the University of Arkansas on March 14 and 15. A final list of athletes selected to compete will be completed by 7 p.m. CT on Monday, March 10.
