Day One Recap

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Rhode Island women's outdoor track and field team placed second at the 2008 Atlantic 10 championship this afternoon, held at the Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.

The Rams tied with Dayton, as both teams totalled 110.5 points. Charlotte amassed 203 points for the championship. Temple placed fourth with 108 points, followed by Richmond (68), Massachusetts (60), La Salle (57), Saint Joseph's (48), Duquesne (33.5), Saint Louis (22.5), Fordham (21) and Xavier (16).

Sarah Thornton, who was fifth in the shot put this afternoon, was honored as the A-10 Championship's Most Outstanding Field Performer. In day one of competition, she became the first four-time winner of the discus event, while also placing second in the hammer throw.

In other day two action, Kolleen McCauley placed second in the 800m run, clocking a time of 2:13.07. TyLynn Graham was fourth in the 100m hurdles, in a time of 15.25. She was also seventh in the triple jump, with a leap of 36-11.00. Caitlin Hurley was eighth in the 100m dash (12.41).

Jasmine Jennings (44-11.50), Katie Kostiew (41-09.75), and Thornton (40-11.75) finished 3-4-5, respectively, in the shot put. Jessica Pagano was second in the javelin, with a throw of 125-10. Leanne Stover (118-06) and Crystal Bourque (112-00) also scored in the event, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. Ajoke Ogundolani was fifth in the heptathlon (3838), while Shayna Daugherty was sixth (3798).

In the relays, Rhody was eighth in the 4x100m (48.70) and fifth in the 4x400 (3:52.36).

The first-team All-Conference consists of the individual winners at the two-day Championship, while the All-Conference second team is made up of the second-place finishers.
