Rams Defeat Duquesne in Five Games, 3-2

KINGSTON, R.I. - Freshmen Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.) each tallied 18 kills to lead the University of Rhode Island volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Duquesne University in Atlantic 10 action Saturday afternoon at Keaney Gymnasium.

Junior Chinny Okpara (Apple Valley, Calif.) chipped in with 13 kills for the Rams, who won for the fifth time in six matches to climb to 13-12 (5-5 Atlantic 10). Dana McLaughlin led five Dukes (10-17, 2-10 Atlantic 10) in double-figure kills with 18. The loss extended Duquesne's losing streak to six matches.

The Rams dropped the first game 30-23 but rallied to win games two (30-28) and three (31-29). Duquesne forced a game five with a 30-16 win in game four and took a 14-12 lead in game five before losing 16-14.

Senior Kaira Kachadurian (Fresno, Calif.) finished the afternoon with 58 assists for the Rams while sophomore Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) finished with a team-high 22 digs.

Nicole Wright notched 17 kills for the Dukes and Kristin Garrett recorded a match-high 65 assists.

The Rams return to action on Sunday, November 4 when they host Saint Louis in their final home game of the season.
