Saint Louis Defeats Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 Volleyball, 3-0
Nov. 4, 2007 KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of Saint Louis University Sunday afternoon in Atlantic 10 action at Keaney Gymnasium. The Billikens (20-6, 9-3 Atlantic 10) captured game one, 30-22, game two 30-27, and game three 30-22. The loss was just the second in the last seven matches for the Rams, who saw their record even out at 13-13 (5-6 Atlantic 10). Freshman Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the offense with 10 kills. Junior Chinny Okpara (Apple Valley, Calif.) recorded eight kills and classmate Jillian Bekke (Minneapolis, Minn.) notched seven. Junior Peggy Doino (Deer Park, N.Y.) tallied a team-high 17 digs and senior Kaira Kachadurian (Fresno, Calif.) handed out 33 assists in her final home match. Bridget Fonke led five Billikens in double-figure kills with 13 while Lauren Christman had 11 and Sutton Lasater, Sammi McCloud, and Sally Warning each recorded 10. Whitney Roth tallied a match-high 44 assists and Whitney Behrens had 21 digs. Saint Louis posted a .313 hitting pct. on the afternoon while the Rams finished at .185. They played without starting middle blocker Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.). The Rams return to action this Friday, November 9, when they travel to Ohio for a 7 p.m. match against Xavier.
